As you know, I enjoy metalwork, especially when a project seems daunting at first but becomes a rewarding challenge as you dive into it. Recently, I was asked to make a simple handrail to keep the side of a house safe for walking along the edge. However, what started as a straightforward handrail installation turned into a more ambitious floor surface extension.

Front of House

The reason for this change was quite delightful. The owner loves to grow flowers in pots, and extending the pathway would create more space to place the flower pots and walk safely across. This additional space not only enhances safety but also provides a beautiful area for the owner's beloved plants.

The project involved designing and installing a sturdy handrail along the edge and extending the floor surface to accommodate the extra space needed for the flower pots. This meant ensuring the extension was strong enough to support both foot traffic and the weight of the pots.

Handrail Primer Coated and Painted

Once the metal framework was in place, I carefully welded the components together, ensuring a secure and stable structure. After welding, I cleaned the metal surfaces and applied primer and paint to protect against the elements and give it a polished look.

Transforming a simple handrail into a functional and aesthetically pleasing pathway extension was a fulfilling task. It’s always a joy to see how metalwork can enhance both safety and beauty, and knowing that the owner now has more space to enjoy their gardening hobby made the project even more rewarding.
